Yoginis of the Kalika Purana

India, Assam, Bengal

Partly translated in 1799 and 1947, the Kalika Purana became available (in fact only half of it) to English readers in 1972; and the present list has been collected with the help of the edition by K.R. van Kooij. The list below does not appear in the Kalika Purana itself. It has been assembled from a variety of sources.

It is interesting to see that the work mentions quite a number of important and famous Hindu/Tantric goddesses usually not classified as yoginis.

Many of the deities listed here are members of other groups or teams of goddesses as well, especially the Navadurgas, Nayikas (1) and Saptamatrikas are represented.

The names are listed here alphabetically, the numbering is simply a means for counting and not meant to indicate any succession or hierarchy.
