Gandharvis

An Indian group of spirits and/or deities perhaps comparable to the European types of nymphs, with members such as Gandharvi (a sexual seductress), Dundubhi (the "war-drum") and Manthara (hate?). The individual differences of these deities make it difficult to establish their association with one another as members of a group.
The Atharva Veda associates all Gandharvis with dice playing, i.e. with gambling, chance, fortune etc.; yet in the stories of individual members there are elements of seduction as well as those of aggression and war.
Sometimes also a Mandarava is listed as a gandharvi.
