Skt., vagala: Deceiver
Traditional iconography depicts Bhagala as a crane-headed goddess, and it is from this animal - regarded in India as the most deceitful of all birds - that she received her name.
On the one hand, Bhagala rules over poisons and "black magic" and represents destructive desires such as cruelty, hate and similar ones. On the other hand is it her, too, who destroys such negative forces - as well as illusionary mental concepts whenever they get out of hand.
In the Kalika Purana, she is one of many yoginis; and other spellings of her name are Bagala Mukhi and/or Valga.
Sometimes she's identified with Durga Balapramathini.
