Art and Famous Women
In an effort that took her and her many associates more or less 5 years to complete, the Dinner Party was a huge art project dedicated to a great number of famous women. The subtitle's symbol of our heritage refers to the yoni/vulva; since each woman was represented at the dinner table by a dinner plate that bears this shape (see cover).
The book is not really 'about' the yoni then, but it was one of the earliest (in modern times) that so openly and consistently used the yoni as a symbol for womanhood.
